Rope access and building maintenance FAQs.
Straight answers about rope access, repairs, safety, access and quotes.
Cost & quoting
Is the quote free?
Yes. The site visit and the written quote are free, with no obligation.
How do I request a quote?
Use the quote form, email info@onropes.co.nz or call 0800 667 677. The site visit and written quote are free.
Is the condition check really free?
Yes. Every wash and every planned maintenance visit includes a photo condition check at no cost. It is a visual check of the walls we reach, not a structural or engineering report. If something needs an engineer, we tell you.
How is access priced?
Access is a line of its own in the quote, next to the repair, so you can compare us with another contractor. If the job needs a different access method, we say so before we price it.
What is included in the price?
Access, labour, materials, GST and clean-up are itemised in the quote. Anything outside the quoted scope is agreed in writing before it is done.
Do you take deposits?
Payment terms are set out in the quote; larger jobs are usually staged.

Yes. A site-specific JSA and method statement are issued before we start, for your facility manager to sign off.
Access & disruption
How disruptive is the work?
Not very. We rig in the morning, work through the day and derig at the end of it. People stay in the building and keep using it.
Do you need roof anchors already in place?
Helpful, but not required. We can rig off parapets, columns, counterweights or temporary anchors. We can also install permanent anchors as part of the job.
How often do roof anchors need testing?
Anchors are tagged and re-certified every year, in line with WorkSafe guidance on working at height. They are not part of the Building Warrant of Fitness.
Do you cordon off the ground?
Yes, where it is needed. Cones, tape and a spotter under any drop zone, with signage agreed with you.
What hours can you work?
Normal hours are 7am to 5pm. We can work after hours on retail and CBD sites, and we price that in the quote.
What about weather?
We stop for high wind or heavy rain, using the limits in the site-specific plan, and we tell you as soon as a day moves.
Scope of work
What jobs can rope access do?
Facade and concrete repair, leak testing and repair, painting and protective coatings, roof anchors and certification, glazing and panel work, and building washing.
How tall can you work?
There is no fixed limit. The building needs sound anchor points, which we check first.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. Small jobs are often grouped into the same day to keep the cost down.
Is concrete spalling dangerous?
It can be. Spalling means the steel inside is rusting and pushing the concrete off, so pieces can fall. Get it looked at.
