A coating is a system, not a colour.

Most paint failures on tall buildings start with the preparation, not the paint. A dirty wall. Moisture still in it. A primer left out to save money.

The finish looks the same on handover day. The difference shows up a few years later.

So we test the wall first, prepare it properly, and record every coat.

On a large facade we use a manufacturer-inspected system. That is the only route to a paint warranty.

When a building actually needs repainting.

Paint stops keeping water out years before a building looks bad enough to raise at a meeting. We check four things.

    Chalking

    The wall leaves a powdery mark on your hand. The paint is breaking down.

  2. 02

    Loss of gloss

    Usually on the north and west walls first in Auckland.

  3. 03

    Cracking

    We check whether it stops at the paint or goes into the wall.

  4. 04

    Adhesion and moisture

    Both tested, not guessed. Water behind a new coat will wreck it.

How a repaint runs.

    We test the wall

    Condition check, adhesion test on the old paint, and a moisture reading.

  2. 02

    You approve the system

    Paint system, colour and sheen agreed with you, and the preparation standard put in writing.

  3. 03

    We prepare and paint

    Wash down, strip failed paint, repair defects, prime, then coats at the specified rate.

  4. 04

    You get the records

    Coat record by elevation, batch numbers, product data sheets and the warranty papers.

How often does a building need repainting?

It depends on the paint, the wall and the exposure. We look at yours and tell you. If it does not need doing yet, we say so.

Who chooses the paint system?

On a large facade: the paint manufacturer's rep, your consultant, or us working with the manufacturer. That route carries the warranty.

What weather stops you painting?

The data sheet sets the limits. We stop when it is too cold, too humid, too windy, or the wall is wet.

Could an older building have lead paint?

If it was painted before the 1980s, yes. Where we suspect lead, we test first and price the controls separately.
